Lymphatic Therapies

The Lymphatic system is the third part of the circulatory system - vital to our health, but one that is easily overlooked.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage and Immuno-Lymphatic Therapy are the best way to ensure that it is working properly and we offer both here.  They are very suitable for people recovering from surgery which has resulted in an accumulation of fluids in the tissues - whether this surgery was for a medical condition or cosmetic.

is a very gentle, relaxing and de-stressing form of massage which follows the sequence of lymphatic flow and by its action, stimulates the lymph vessels to contract and siphon the lymph fluid along.   It is exquisitely gentle - most people relax very quickly and often drift off to sleep during a treatment.

This massage has seven broad functions:

1.      It cleanses and purifies the connective tissue so that the body heals itself more quickly

2.      It drains congestion and swellings including sprains, speeding recovery

3.      It  balances the Nervous System, reducing the effects of stress

4.      It reduces or eliminates pain, including chronic pain

5.      It strengthens the Immune System so preventing illnesses

6.      It tones the muscles and improves the skin

7.      By taking excess fluid and fat out of the tissues, it is very helpful with weight reduction and cellulite dispersal

It is very effective when used to treat:

Any stress condition - tiredness - fluid retention – cellulite - swollen ankles (including in pregnancy, the elderly & lymphoedema) - M.E. – MS - rheumatoid and osteo-arthritis - sports injuries – acne – scars - headaches and migraine - digestive problems - sinusitis – labyrinthitis - lowered resistance to colds and infections – glaucoma - tooth extraction - joint swellings - overworked muscles - general aches and pains - weight reduction and many more.

It is also very useful before and after surgery to speed recovery, reduce scarring, and also to prevent the development of stretch marks in pregnancy.

We have also found that it very helpful in conjunction with osteopathic or chiropractic treatment to enable fuller relaxation of the muscles, thus making those treatments more effective.

But not advised when there is cardiac oedema, active cancer (unless terminal), recent thrombosis, acute inflammation,   hyperthyroidism

What is the treatment like?  It starts with a detailed consultation, followed by a full body treatment which takes about 1 hour, followed by a short rest.  Subsequent treatments may be shorter as certain conditions don’t require the whole body to be treated but need to repeated within a few days for best results.
